The Four Principles That Define How We Train

Forty years of one-on-one coaching has refined the system into four working principles. Each one shows up in every session — whether you're new to strength training, coming back after a long break, or training around old injuries. These are the operating rules behind everything we do.

Muscle-First Training

We build muscle first. After 40, muscle is the foundation everything else gets layered on top of — independence, posture, the years to come. The strength comes first, the cardio supports it, the nutrition feeds it.

Three Hours a Week

That's the dose. Most fitness culture says five days a week, six hours of cardio, macro tracking, and 10,000 steps. We don't. Three hours, built correctly, executed consistently. That's what we've prescribed for 40 years and it's what works for the adults who train with us.

Our trainers are with our clients every second they are training. Every rep watched. Every session calibrated. That's the difference between training and just exercising — and it's the difference between a TSF session and a workout at the big-box gym down the road.

Every exercise has a risk-benefit ratio. We pick the ones with high benefit and low risk for adults 40+ — bodies with history. The squats we skip. The lifts we keep. The variations we coach. The methodology lives in the choices.

Cardiovascular training

Our cardio program is designed exclusively to strengthen the cardio-respiratory system. We give our clients specific directions on exactly where their heart rate should be, the duration of each workout, and the frequency of their cardio workouts.

Our trainers are with our clients every second they are training. We make sure they have perfect biomechanics, they are using the right amount of resistance, and they are achieving the proper level of intensity on each set.

nutrition

For over 40 years we have observed everything related to diets, weight loss, and nutritional science. We mix knowledge and experience with our customers’s schedule and the foods they like to build a successful system.

MICRO-GROUP TRAINING SYSTEM

Training with a few people creates a community and support network.  While you are lifting, the other few are resting and vice versa.

Why Every Program Works

The system isn't broken. The execution is. Every diet works. Every program works. After 41 years of coaching, we've watched adults try every program — and what changes the outcome isn't the system. It's the execution.

That's the TSF thesis, and it's the reason our methodology is built around the execution side, not the program side. The program is the easy part. The execution is where most adults fail.
